How to Systematically Fix Error Code 22 – Manual Way

Windows Error Code 22 is relatively not a complicated problem to resolve. Unlike some of the other hardware or device driver errors that you can encounter, this error code is straight to the point and almost instantly let you know how to rectify the situation.

Devices, like printers, can be enabled or disabled by way of the Device Manager interface. If you attempt to use a device and get the 22 error, you will have to navigate to the Device Manager. Once the Device Manager is open, you need to find the device which you were trying to access. Then Scroll through the list until you locate the device that is giving you the problem, and remember the name of the device.

To fix Error Code 22, perform the following steps:

1. While in Device Manager, click “Actions”.
2. After you click Actions, double-click “Enable Device”.
3. The Enable Device Wizard will pop up.

5. After you are done following the directions, the device should once again be available for use, and presenting you with a status of enabled.

8. Reinstall the drivers for the device.

10. Clear CMOS.
11. Update BIOS.
12. Move the device to a different expansion slot on the mother board, assuming of course that the piece of hardware with the Code 22 error is an expansion card of some kind.
13. Replace the hardware to fix Error Code 22. A problem with the device is incompatible with your version of Windows. You can always check the Windows HCL to be sure.

Note: If you are sure that the hardware is working properly and is properly configured, then you might want to consider a repair install of Windows. If that fails to work, try a clean install of Windows. I don’t suggest doing either before you replace the hardware, but you may have to give them a try if you are out of other choices.
